Working methods
The CAVV's advisory reports are prepared by drafting groups. The composition of a drafting group depends on the subject under consideration. Within each drafting group one member is appointed as the group coordinator.
The drafting group convenes on several occasions, and its members co-author the draft advisory report, or individual parts of it. During plenary meetings (or in the interim using online communications) the entire committee is involved in the process, and all members are given the opportunity to offer their input and observations.
Joint advisory reports
Sometimes the CAVV and the Advisory Council on International Affairs (AIV) produce joint advisory reports. Usually a joint committee is formed from both organisations, which will be chaired by one of the members. The CAVV deals specifically with legal matters, while the AIV is concerned with more general political issues.
